FAQs

Everything you need to know about the Pro 13 Home Collection Test

How accurate is the Pro 13 at-home STD test?

Our test is highly accurate, using the same CLIA-certified labs that doctors and clinics trust. To ensure the most reliable results, follow the sample collection instructions carefully.

How long does it take to get my STD test results?

We guarantee results within 48 hours after your sample reaches our lab. You’ll receive an email notification once your results are ready.

What should I do if my test is positive?

Don’t panic — most STDs are treatable. If you test positive, seek medical advice as soon as possible. While we offer telehealth services for California residents, those outside California should consult a doctor or clinic for treatment options.

What if I have STD symptoms but my test is negative?

Some STDs take time to show up on a test. If you have symptoms but your test is negative, consider:

  • Retesting in a few weeks if you’re within the incubation period.
  • Testing for other STDs, as some infections (like herpes, HPV or syphilis) may not be included in this kit.
  • Seeing a doctor for further evaluation.
Is my STD information kept private?

Absolutely. Your results are stored in a secure, HIPAA-compliant portal and only accessible by you. Your kit arrives in discreet packaging, and we do not share your information with anyone.

What are the symptoms of the STDs tested in this kit?

Many people experience no symptoms at all, which is why regular testing is crucial. However, when symptoms do appear, they can include:

Chlamydia & Gonorrhea

  • Pain or burning during urination
  • Abnormal discharge from the penis, vagina, or rectum
  • Painful bowel movements or rectal discomfort
  • Swelling or pain in the testicles (for men)
  • Many cases show no symptoms, making regular screening essential

HIV-1 & HIV-2

  • Flu-like symptoms such as fever, chills, night sweats, and fatigue
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Rapid weight loss and prolonged diarrhea in later stages
  • Can remain asymptomatic for years while affecting the immune system

Syphilis

  • Painless sores (chancres) on the genitals, mouth, or rectum
  • Skin rashes on the hands, feet, or body
  • Fever, swollen lymph nodes, or patchy hair loss
  • Untreated syphilis can cause severe organ damage over time

Hepatitis B & C

  • Fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite
  • Jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes)
  • Dark urine and abdominal pain
  • Can lead to liver disease if left untreated

Mycoplasma Genitalium (MGen)

  • Pain or burning during urination
  • Vaginal or penile discharge
  • Pelvic pain in women
  • Can lead to pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) if untreated

Trichomoniasis

  • Itching, burning, or redness in the genital area
  • Unusual vaginal or penile discharge (may have a strong odor)
  • Pain during urination or sex
  • Many infected individuals show no symptoms

Why Testing Matters

Many STDs remain asymptomatic for months or even years, silently affecting your health. Regular testing with the Pro 13 Kit ensures early detection, helping you stay in control of your sexual health and protect your partners.

How often should I get tested for STDs?

PASS-Certified Testing: Every 14 days – Those who require PASS clearance must follow industry guidelines and test every two weeks to maintain compliance and ensure a safe environment for all.

Chlamydia & Gonorrhea: Every 3 to 6 months for sexually active individuals with multiple partners, those engaging in casual or unprotected sex, or anyone at higher risk. Professionals should follow PASS testing requirements for routine screening.

HIV-1 & HIV-2: At least once a year, with more frequent testing (every 3 to 6 months) for individuals with higher exposure risks, including those engaging in condomless sex or multiple-partner relationships.

Syphilis: Every 6 to 12 months for those in monogamous relationships and every 3 to 6 months for individuals at higher risk, including professionals, men who have sex with men (MSM), and those with multiple partners.

Hepatitis B & C: Annual testing is recommended for individuals at risk, including those who share needles, engage in unprotected sex, or have multiple partners. Those vaccinated for Hepatitis B may not require routine screening.

Mycoplasma Genitalium (MGen) & Trichomoniasis: Routine screening is not typically required unless symptoms appear. Individuals experiencing persistent urethritis, pelvic pain, or unusual discharge should consider testing.

Regular testing is crucial because many STDs can be asymptomatic for months or even years. The Pro 13 Kit provides comprehensive screening to help you stay informed, compliant, and in control of your health.

Can I use the Pro 13 at-home test if I'm pregnant?

Yes! It’s safe to use during pregnancy. In fact, routine STD screening is recommended for pregnant individuals to protect both you and your baby from complications.

Are the STDs in this kit transmittable through oral sex?

Yes, STDs tested in the Pro 13 Kit can be transmitted through oral sex. While many assume STDs only spread through vaginal or anal sex, oral sex can lead to throat (pharyngeal) infections or serve as a route of transmission to the genitals. Here’s how each STD in the Pro 13 Kit can be spread through oral sex:

Chlamydia & Gonorrhea

  • Can infect the throat (pharyngeal chlamydia & gonorrhea) through oral-genital or oral-anal contact.
  • Many throat infections show no symptoms but can still be transmitted.

HIV-1 & HIV-2

  • Lower risk through oral sex but still possible, especially with cuts, sores, or bleeding gums.
  • The presence of other STDs increases the risk of HIV transmission.

Syphilis

  • Highly contagious through oral sex, as sores can appear on the mouth, lips, genitals, or anus.
  • Even when sores are not visible, the infection can still be transmitted.

Hepatitis B & C

  • Hepatitis B can spread through oral sex, especially if there are cuts or sores in the mouth.
  • Hepatitis C is less commonly transmitted this way but still possible with open wounds.

Mycoplasma Genitalium (MGen)

  • Can be transmitted through oral sex, but throat infections are rare.
  • More commonly causes genital and urethral infections after oral-genital contact.

Trichomoniasis

  • Rarely transmitted through oral sex, as it primarily infects the genital tract.
  • The risk is lower, but oral-genital exposure can still play a role in transmission.

Since many oral STDs have no symptoms, regular testing is essential for detecting infections early and preventing transmission to partners. Using condoms or dental dams during oral sex can help reduce the risk.

The Pro 13 Kit screens for infections across multiple sites, including the throat, ensuring comprehensive detection.
