Why Focus 2 STD kit is for you?

You might wonder — why test for HSV-1 and HSV-2? Herpes is one of the most common and easily spread STDs, often showing no symptoms while still being transmissible. Regular screening is essential to stay informed about your health. Here’s why it matters:

It’s often silent

Many people with Herpes 1 & 2 (HSV-1 & HSV-2) never experience symptoms but can still pass the virus to others. When symptoms do occur, they may include painful blisters, itching, or flu-like symptoms during outbreaks. Even without visible sores, the virus can still be transmitted.

It’s lifelong & can impact health

HSV-1 & HSV-2 – These viruses remain in the body for life and can cause recurrent outbreaks. While there is no cure, antiviral treatments can help manage symptoms and reduce the risk of transmission.

Increased risk of HIV Transmission – Herpes sores create openings in the skin, making it easier for HIV to enter the body if exposed.

Neonatal Herpes risk – Pregnant individuals with herpes can pass the virus to their baby during childbirth, which can lead to severe complications.

It’s easily transmissible

Herpes spreads through skin-to-skin contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. HSV-1, commonly known as oral herpes, can be transmitted to the genitals through oral sex, causing genital herpes (HSV-2). Even if no symptoms are present, the virus can still be passed to partners.

Herpes detection is critical

Since herpes is lifelong and can be transmitted even
without symptoms, knowing your status is key to managing outbreaks, protecting partners, and exploring treatment options.

Regular testing helps detect herpes early, ensuring proper management, preventing complications, and giving you peace of mind about your sexual health.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about the Focus 2 Home Collection Test

How accurate is the Focus 2 at-home STD test?

Our test is highly accurate, using the same CLIA-certified labs that doctors and clinics trust. To ensure the most reliable results, follow the sample collection instructions carefully.

How long does it take to get my STD test results?

We guarantee results within 48 hours after your sample reaches our lab. You’ll receive an email notification once your results are ready.

What should I do if my test is positive?

Don’t panic — most STDs are treatable. If you test positive, seek medical advice as soon as possible. While we offer telehealth services for California residents, those outside California should consult a doctor or clinic for treatment options.

What if I have STD symptoms but my test is negative?

Some STDs take time to show up on a test. If you have symptoms but your test is negative, consider:

  • Retesting in a few weeks if you’re within the incubation period.
  • Testing for other STDs, as some infections (like herpes, HPV or syphilis) may not be included in this kit.
  • Seeing a doctor for further evaluation.
Is my STD information kept private?

Absolutely. Your results are stored in a secure, HIPAA-compliant portal and only accessible by you. Your kit arrives in discreet packaging, and we do not share your information with anyone.

What are the symptoms of the STDs tested in this kit?

Many people experience no symptoms at all, which is why testing is crucial. However, when symptoms do appear, they can include:

  • Herpes 1 & 2 (HSV-1 & HSV-2) – Painful blisters or sores on the mouth, genitals, or rectum, itching, burning, flu-like symptoms during the first outbreak, or no symptoms at all while still being contagious.

Regular testing is essential because many STDs remain asymptomatic for months or even years, silently affecting your health.

How often should I get tested for STDs?

Herpes 1 & 2 (HSV-1 & HSV-2): Routine herpes testing is not recommended unless symptoms appear. However, individuals with recurrent outbreaks, those with new or multiple partners, and those at higher risk (such as MSM or immunocompromised individuals) should consider periodic testing.

Regular testing is crucial because many STDs can be asymptomatic. If you’re sexually active, knowing your status helps protect both your health and your partners.

Can I use the Focus 2 at-home test if I'm pregnant?

Yes! It’s safe to use during pregnancy. In fact, routine STD screening is recommended for pregnant individuals to protect both you and your baby from complications.

Are the STDs in this kit transmittable through oral sex?

Yes, STDs tested in the Focus 2 Herpes Kit can be transmitted through oral sex. While many assume STDs only spread through vaginal or anal sex, oral sex can lead to infections in the throat (pharyngeal infections) or be a route of transmission to the genitals. Here’s how each STD in the Focus 2 Herpes Kit can be spread through oral sex:

Herpes 1 & 2 (HSV-1 & HSV-2)Highly transmissible through oral sex, herpes can spread from the mouth to the genitals and vice versa, even when no visible sores are present. HSV-1 is commonly associated with oral cold sores but can cause genital herpes through oral-genital contact. HSV-2, typically genital herpes, can also infect the mouth.

Since many oral STDs have no symptoms, regular testing is essential for detecting infections early and preventing transmission to partners. Using barriers like condoms or dental dams can help reduce the risk.
