– The majority of these infections are transmitted via fluids, making up a substantial proportion of the total number of STIs. For example, HIV and Chlamydia are almost exclusively spread through the exchange of fluids rather than skin contact.
While exact percentages can vary depending on the population and the study, STIs spread via skin-to-skin contact are a significant contributor, especially for conditions like HPV and herpes. On the other hand, **fluid-based transmission** is dominant for bacterial and viral infections like chlamydia, gonorrhea, and HIV.

Step-by-Step Guide to Using The ProDx At-Home STI Testing Kit
- Inside the box, you’ll find two bags: one for the swab and one for the finger stick (blood test).
- For Males: Open the swab (it looks like a large Q-tip) and gently swab around the tip of the penis, focusing on the urethral opening. You don’t need to insert the swab into the urethra.
- For Females: Open the swab and insert it about an inch into the vaginal opening. Gently swirl it around, then remove the swab.
- Break off the swab at the notch, place it into the provided tube, and close the cap.
- Clean a finger with the alcohol swab provided.
- Use the lancet to prick your finger, allowing blood to flow.
- Collect the blood by running the lip of the small tube (microtainer) along the cut and gently squeezing your finger to guide the blood into the tube.
- Cap the tube once it’s filled.
- Place both the swab and blood sample into their respective plastic bags.
- Put the bags back into the box.

Herpes Studies
There is a growing body of research that links Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV), particularly HSV-1, with cognitive dysfunction, neuropathy, and even Alzheimer’s disease.
